Not every role changes lives in the classroom. Some change lives during the quietest hours of the night.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Night Awake Childcare Officer to join a specialist residential school supporting children and young people with additional needs.

For many pupils, feeling safe, secure and understood is the foundation for everything else. As part of the night team, you will provide the consistency, reassurance and support that helps young people settle, thrive and develop confidence in themselves.

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a nurturing setting where relationships matter, wellbeing is prioritised and every member of staff plays an important role in helping pupils achieve their potential.

The Role

As a Residential Night Awake Childcare Officer, you will:

  • Carry out regular welfare and safeguarding checks throughout the night

  • Support pupils who may require reassurance, guidance or assistance

  • Provide personal care where required with dignity and sensitivity

  • Maintain accurate records and complete effective handovers

  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety and emergency procedures

  • Help create a calm, safe and supportive residential environment

  • Remain awake, alert and proactive throughout your shift

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience working with children or young people

  • Have worked within residential care, SEND, education or support settings

  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and child protection

  • Are calm, patient and emotionally resilient

  • Can build positive and trusting relationships

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in Care or are willing to work towards one

Why join this setting?

  • A nurturing and supportive residential environment

  • A collaborative and welcoming staff team

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • Opportunities to build a long-term career within specialist education

  • The chance to make a genuine difference to young people's lives every day
