School Youth Worker
Location: Harlesden, North West London
Pay: £90–£110 per day (PAYE only)
Contract: Full-time, term-time only, temporary to permanent
Do you believe one steady adult can change the direction of a young person’s life?
A specialist SEN school in Harlesden is looking for a School Youth Worker to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a role for someone who understands that some young people don’t need more punishment, pressure or judgement. They need consistency, boundaries, and a trusted adult who shows up every day and means it.
Many pupils have experienced disrupted education, trauma, or repeated setbacks. This school offers a structured, nurturing and relationship-led environment where emotional safety comes first, and where pupils are supported to rebuild trust, regulate emotions and re-engage with learning at a pace that feels possible.
The role
You will provide targeted mentoring and emotional support to pupils who struggle to engage with school. This includes 1:1 and small group work focused on SEMH needs, emotional regulation and social development. You will support pupils during lessons, transitions and unstructured times, helping them manage challenging moments using trauma-informed, restorative and de-escalation approaches. You will build strong relationships with vulnerable young people and work closely with teaching and pastoral teams to contribute to behaviour plans, interventions and EHCP targets.
This is an active, hands-on role where your presence and consistency will matter just as much as your experience.
Who this role suits
This role is ideal for someone with experience working with SEMH, behavioural needs or SEN, or someone from a background in youth work, care, mentoring or pastoral support. You will be calm, resilient and empathetic, with the ability to stay grounded even when pupils are struggling. Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to inclusion and wellbeing are essential.
This is not a passive classroom role. It’s for someone who wants to be involved, invested, and part of a team that believes every young person can move forward with the right support.
