School-based Speech and Language Therapist, Surrey

January start, permanent contract, full-time, 8am to 4pm

£32,000 to £45,000 per year, depending on experience

Interviews arranged as soon as your application is reviewed

Are you a Speech and Language Therapist ready to make one school your whole focus? What would change for you if your whole caseload sat in one school, with classes of six to eight?

This is a permanent Speech and Language Therapist role in a specialist school in Surrey. The school supports autistic pupils of primary and secondary age. Many pupils also have SEMH needs or ADHD.

Classes are small, so you get to know each pupil well. You will work through whole-class strategies, small groups and individual sessions, and your advice can reach lessons quickly.

What you will do

  • Assess pupils’ speech, language and communication needs and set clear, practical targets
  • Deliver individual and small-group sessions, including social communication work
  • Give teachers and LSAs simple strategies they can use in every lesson
  • Write reports and recommendations for EHCP reviews
  • Work with families and the staff team, so progress carries across the whole school day

About you

  • You have a real interest in autism and in how communication links to wellbeing and behaviour
  • You hold HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist. This is a must-have.
  • Newly qualified? You are welcome to apply.
  • Experience with autistic young people or SEMH needs would suit you well, from NHS, independent or school-based work
  • If you work in adult services or a mainstream setting and want to move into specialist education, you are encouraged to apply too

Why apply

Your caseload is in one place. You get to know each pupil, what unsettles them and what helps them thrive. Staff can ask you a question in the corridor and use your answer that afternoon.

Small classes give you room to try an approach, review it and adjust it quickly. For a newly qualified therapist, that is a strong place to build confidence. For an experienced therapist, it is a chance to shape how a whole school approaches communication.
