Science Lab & Food Technology Technician

Barnet, North London | £100–£125 per day PAYE | Full-time

Some of the best learning happens when pupils can see, test, build, cook and experiment for themselves.

Behind every successful practical lesson is someone making sure the equipment is ready, the resources are organised and everything can run safely.

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a Science Lab & Food Technology Technician for a school in Barnet.

This is a varied, practical role supporting both Science and Food Technology, ideal for someone who is organised, hands-on and confident working in busy practical learning environments.

What will the role involve?

You will support teaching staff by preparing resources, maintaining equipment and ensuring practical lessons can run safely and efficiently.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing equipment and materials for Science practical lessons

  • Setting up experiments and practical activities

  • Preparing ingredients and equipment for Food Technology lessons

  • Cleaning, storing and maintaining equipment

  • Monitoring stock levels and ordering resources where required

  • Ensuring laboratories and practical teaching spaces are organised

  • Supporting safe storage of chemicals and specialist materials

  • Maintaining hygiene standards within Food Technology areas

  • Checking equipment and reporting faults

  • Supporting teachers during practical lessons where appropriate

  • Following relevant health and safety procedures

  • Helping pupils access practical learning safely

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Strong organisation and attention to detail

  • Confidence working independently

  • A practical and proactive approach

  • Ability to follow health and safety procedures

  • Good communication skills

  • Confidence working within a school environment

Desirable experience

We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in:

  • School Science Technician roles

  • Laboratory Technician work

  • Food Technology Technician positions

  • Science laboratories

  • Catering or food preparation environments

  • Secondary schools

  • SEND or specialist education

A Science-related qualification or previous laboratory experience would be particularly useful, although relevant practical experience will also be considered.

Why consider this role?

This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work but also wants to be part of an education environment.

No two days are likely to look exactly the same. You could be preparing resources for a Science experiment in the morning and ensuring a Food Technology practical is ready later that day.

Your organisation behind the scenes directly affects what pupils are able to experience in the classroom.

Pay: £100–£125 per day PAYE, depending on experience.
