Science Teacher
Specialist SEMH Secondary School
Ealing, West London
£201.01 to £298.05 per day PAYE
September Start
What if the students sitting in your science lesson were not disengaged because they lacked curiosity but because nobody had ever found the right way to reach them?
What if the young person who had been written off in mainstream education turned out to be the one who leaned furthest forward when something bubbled, changed colour or reacted in a way they did not expect? What if science, real, hands-on, awe-inspiring science was exactly the subject that reminded them learning could feel like something worth doing?
If you are a Science teacher who believes that curiosity exists in every young person and that the right environment can unlock it, this school wants to hear from you.
The setting
This is a secondary specialist school for young people aged 11 to 19 with social, emotional and mental health needs, a school built around the conviction that every student can triumph with perseverance. The ethos here is lived rather than displayed. Respect, integrity, empathy and diversity shape how the whole community operates, from the way staff talk to students to the way students talk to one another.
The school is housed in a modern, purpose-built building with specialist science laboratories and facilities designed to support high quality practical learning. Students also benefit from access to a range of therapies and a personal development programme that runs alongside the curriculum. Rated outstanding for behaviour and attitudes, this is a school that has done the hard work of creating an environment where young people who have struggled elsewhere begin to find their confidence and their voice.
The role
You will teach Science across key stages to secondary aged pupils in small groups, in a setting where the support around you is strong and the pace of each lesson can genuinely respond to the needs of the students in the room. Your lessons will be practical where possible, intellectually ambitious and connected to the real world in ways that give young people a reason to engage. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the school, contribute to the wider curriculum and help students build not just scientific knowledge but the kind of resilience and curiosity that serves them long after they leave.
Who this is for
This role is well suited to qualified teachers with QTS and a background in Science or a related subject. You might have experience in a specialist, SEMH or alternative provision setting, or you might be coming from mainstream education with a strong sense that you belong somewhere different somewhere the relationships are deeper, the class sizes smaller and the impact more visible. What matters most is that you bring genuine enthusiasm for your subject, the patience to meet young people where they are and the belief that scientific curiosity is not the preserve of students who find school easy.
What's on offer
You will receive a daily rate of £201.01 to £298.05 PAYE, paid directly with no umbrella companies, with a September start into a school with purpose-built specialist science facilities. As part of a wider academy trust there is genuine scope for professional development and longer term career growth. You will be joining a staff team that is experienced, values-led and genuinely proud of the work they do together.
Why this role matters
Science has a particular power in a school like this one. It asks questions rather than demanding answers. It rewards curiosity over compliance. It gives young people permission to wonder, to get things wrong and to try again and for students who have spent time feeling like failure was inevitable, that permission can be transformative.
The right Science teacher in this setting does not just deliver a curriculum. They show a young person that their mind is capable of remarkable things.
Interviews are taking place now and this role will not be open for long.
