Science Teacher – PRU
Location: Islington
Salary: MPS/UPS
Long-term position

Are you a confident and resilient Science Teacher who is passionate about making a real difference for young people who need it most?

A Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Islington is seeking an experienced Science Teacher to join their dedicated and committed team on a long-term basis. This is a challenging yet deeply rewarding role for a teacher who believes in second chances and is motivated to support students who are at risk of exclusion.

This PRU is a trauma-informed setting that supports children who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education, those attending preventative programmes due to behavioural concerns, and young people with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment where relationships, consistency, and understanding are at the heart of everything they do.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging Science lessons across the secondary curriculum, tracking and monitoring pupil progress to support learning, and adapting your teaching to meet the individual needs of each student. Building positive and trusting relationships with students, parents, and carers will be central to your role, as will your ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.

Both primary and secondary trained teachers are encouraged to apply, as long as you are confident teaching Science at secondary level and are committed to supporting vulnerable young people.

To be successful in this role, you will need Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a strong understanding of the National Curriculum for Science, excellent communication skills, and proven experience supporting students with challenging behaviour and SEMH needs. Empathy, flexibility, and a genuine passion for inclusive education are essential.

If you are interested in hearing more about this PRU Science Teacher opportunity or would like to explore other SEND roles, please get in touch by responding to this advert, or you can call Katie at Parker Smith Inclusion on 0203 011 4848.
