Secondary ASC Teacher

Permanent or Fixed-Term Maternity Cover

Hounslow

Full-Time

£40,657 - £58,941 plus SEN allowance

Some young people arrive at secondary school carrying years of frustration with education.

For some, classrooms have felt too loud, too unpredictable, too overwhelming. Communication has broken down. Anxiety has grown roots. Trust in adults has become fragile.

And yet, with the right teacher, everything can begin to shift.

This role is for a teacher who understands that progress for autistic young people is not built through pressure or rigid expectations. It is built through consistency, relationships, structure, patience, and genuine understanding.

The school is a specialist SEND setting in West London supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs. Purpose-built and continuing to grow, it has been designed around creating calm, predictable environments where pupils feel safe enough to engage, communicate, and learn in ways that work for them.

Classes are small, support is high, and staff work collaboratively around each pupil. Therapy teams, support staff, and leadership are closely connected, creating a culture where teachers are never expected to figure things out alone.

The school is looking for a Secondary ASC Teacher to join the team on either a permanent basis or a fixed-term maternity cover contract. Applications are welcomed from experienced SEND teachers as well as mainstream secondary teachers who feel ready to move into specialist education.

The leadership team recognises that many excellent SEND practitioners started their careers elsewhere. What matters most here is your ability to build relationships, adapt your practice thoughtfully, and remain curious about how each pupil experiences the world around them.

The curriculum is highly personalised and focuses not only on academic progress, but also communication, emotional regulation, independence, confidence, and preparation for adulthood. Staff are encouraged to think creatively and work relationally, rather than relying on one-size-fits-all approaches.

The school would particularly value experience or interest in:

  • Autism and complex needs
  • THRIVE or trauma-informed practice
  • Behaviour support strategies
  • Communication and sensory needs
  • Relationship-based teaching approaches
  • Personalised and differentiated learning

QTS is required, although ECT applications are welcomed. The school is open to subject specialists from mainstream backgrounds who are looking for more meaningful, individualised teaching and who want to work in an environment where relationships come before performance metrics.

This is a setting where staff wellbeing is taken seriously. The team is warm, supportive, and ambitious for both pupils and each other. As the school continues to expand, there will also be strong opportunities for progression and professional development.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to enhanced DBS and online checks.
