Secondary SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Location: Thurrock
Pay: £110 per day PAYE
Contract: Temporary for 12 weeks, with the opportunity to become permanent
Start date: ASAP

Some young people need a little more support to feel settled, engage with learning and get the most out of their school day. This role is about being a consistent, reliable presence and helping pupils with additional needs navigate secondary school.

Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a secondary school in Thurrock looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join its SEND support team. The role will initially be temporary for 12 weeks, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position for the right person.

About the Role

You'll support secondary-aged pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them access learning, follow classroom routines and manage the challenges that can come with the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with their learning and day-to-day classroom activities.

  • Following guidance from teachers and the wider support team.

  • Adapting your approach to suit individual pupils and their needs.

  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and positive behaviour.

  • Providing consistent support when pupils find learning or social situations difficult.

  • Building positive relationships with pupils and staff.

About You

Previous school experience isn't essential. Experience in education, care, support work or similar roles would be useful, but applications from people looking to move into SEND for the first time are also welcome.

What matters most is your attitude, reliability and willingness to learn. You'll need to be patient, calm under pressure and comfortable working with secondary-aged pupils who may need additional support throughout the day.

You'll also need to take direction, respond positively to feedback and work well as part of a team.
