Autism Support Learning Assistant – Secondary School
Full-Time | Temp to Permanent
Location: Barking & Dagenham
Start: ASAP
Pay: £90 per day (PAYE)
Help Young People Feel Safe, Seen, and Ready to Learn
For many autistic young people, mainstream education hasn’t always worked for them. Busy classrooms, unclear expectations, or sensory overload can make learning feel impossible. With the right adults around them, though, everything can change.
This is your chance to be one of those adults.
A School That Does Things Differently
This welcoming mainstream secondary school in Barking and Dagenham supports pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition in a highly structured, nurturing environment. Learning is tailored to the individual, routines are clear, and progress is measured in confidence as much as academics.
Small class sizes mean you’ll build strong, trusting relationships with pupils. You’ll work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to help young people regulate their emotions, access learning, and develop independence at their own pace.
The Role Offers:
-
A calm, well-organised setting designed to meet ASC needs
-
Close collaboration with SEN specialists, therapists, and leadership
-
The chance to support both learning and essential life skills
-
A team culture where support staff are genuinely valued
-
Daily moments of progress that truly matter
About You:
You might already have experience working with autistic children or young people, or perhaps you come from a background in care, youth work, or pastoral support. What matters most is your attitude. You’re patient, empathetic, reliable, and committed to helping pupils feel understood and secure.
If you’re motivated to learn and make a difference, full training and ongoing support will be provided.
Why This Role Matters
This isn’t just classroom support, it’s helping a young person learn to trust, communicate, and believe in themselves. Whether it’s supporting emotional regulation, encouraging engagement, or celebrating small wins, the impact you make will stay with them far beyond school.
