Secondary SEND Support Mentor

Supporting Young People to Thrive in Secondary Education

We are working with a secondary school in Havering that is looking for a calm, committed and proactive Secondary SEND Support Mentor to join their team.

This role supports students with a range of additional needs, which may include autism, communication differences, SEMH needs, and other learning or behavioural needs. The focus is on helping young people feel understood, regulated and able to engage positively in their education.

In secondary SEND settings, progress can look different. It may be improved engagement in lessons, stronger relationships, increased independence, better emotional regulation, or greater confidence in structured learning environments. Your support will play an important role in enabling that progress.

What You Will Be Doing

Supporting students within lessons and structured activities
Helping young people regulate emotions and behaviour in a calm and consistent way
Encouraging positive communication and engagement
Promoting independence and confidence
Working closely with teaching staff and wider school teams
Contributing to a supportive and structured learning environment

About You

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND is beneficial
Calm, patient and resilient in approach
Confident supporting behaviour in a positive and consistent way
Understanding that behaviour is communication
A strong team player with a genuine commitment to supporting young people

You will feel comfortable working with adolescents in a secondary school environment and supporting them through their individual development.
