secondary school in Merton is seeking an experienced, proactive and passionate SENDCo to join their inclusive and forward-thinking team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled SEND leader to shape provision across the academy, drive attainment for pupils with additional needs, and embed high-quality inclusive practice school-wide.

About the Role

You will develop, lead and manage the strategy, resources and practices required to meet the needs of pupils with SEND, ensuring all learners can fully access the curriculum and achieve strong outcomes.

Working closely with senior leaders, teachers, support staff, families and external professionals, you will oversee SEND systems and provision across the academy while leading and developing a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants and support colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and strategically manage SEND provision across the academy

  • Raise attainment and progress for pupils with SEND

  • Manage and develop a team of Teaching Assistants and SEND support colleagues

  • Deliver training and CPD to staff, developing all teachers as teachers of SEND

  • Coordinate EHCPs, annual reviews, referrals, and new applications

  • Confidently manage EHCP/IEP processes and documentation

  • Implement local and national learning strategies (literacy, numeracy, KS3/KS4/KS5)

  • Support inclusive teaching practices across departments

  • Work collaboratively with families and external agencies

Ideal Candidate

  • Must hold NASENCo or NPQSENDCo (or equivalent)

  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice

  • Confident leading annual reviews and managing EHCP/IEP processes

  • Experienced in leading teams and delivering staff training

  • A clear, strategic thinker with excellent communication skills

  • Able to work proactively and independently within a busy secondary setting

  • Passionate about inclusion and improving outcomes for young people
