Are you a HLTA with social, emotional mental health experience? Would you like to expand your responsibilities by teaching PSHE and Life Skills to students who will deeply benefit from your care and passion?
We are working with a specialist SEMH setting seeking a dedicated and compassionate HLTA to join their team and support their male students with a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced practitioner who understands the impact of trauma and can create engaging, meaningful learning experiences that help young people navigate the challenges of everyday life.
The Role
Your position as a HLTA will be slightly more unique in this school, by delivering personalised and engaging learning opportunities through 1:1 interventions, small groups, and whole-class sessions. You will support students in developing essential social, emotional, and practical life skills while providing a calm and structured learning environment.
Key areas of delivery will include:
- Emotional wellbeing, resilience, and self-regulation
- Healthy relationships, consent, and personal safety
- Online safety and responsible digital behaviour
- Risk awareness and decision-making skills
- Financial literacy and preparation for adulthood
- Career readiness and independent living skills
You will also provide classroom cover when required, adapting learning to meet the diverse needs of students and maintaining a positive, low-arousal environment that promotes engagement and success.
What You'll Be Doing
- Planning and delivering trauma-informed PSHE, RSE, and life skills sessions
- Creating differentiated resources tailored to individual learning and sensory needs
- Supporting students through emotional regulation and co-regulation strategies
- Delivering targeted interventions focused on self-esteem, social skills, emotional literacy, and behaviour support
- Facilitating restorative conversations following incidents or conflict
- Working collaboratively with safeguarding and pastoral teams to support student wellbeing
- Ensuring safeguarding concerns are identified, recorded, and acted upon appropriately
- Contributing to student outcomes through close partnership with education and support professionals
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong educational practice with empathy, consistency, and resilience.
You will ideally have:
- ELSA training or similar emotional wellbeing qualifications
- Significant experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
- Experience within specialist provision, alternative provision, PRU, or similar settings
- A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional regulation strategies
- Experience planning and delivering PSHE, RSE, or life skills programmes
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices and common risks affecting vulnerable young people
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and active listening skills
- The ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused during challenging situations
- A creative and adaptable approach to engaging learners
- A positive sense of humour and genuine passion for helping young people succeed
