SEMH Learning Mentor
Brent, North West London

Could you be the consistent adult a young person needs?
We are working with a specialist school in Brent that supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of the pupils also have Autism or ADHD and have struggled in mainstream education. They are looking for a calm, patient and resilient Learning Mentor who can build positive relationships and help pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
This is a rewarding opportunity where no two days are the same. You'll be working with a dedicated team who understand that behaviour is communication and who focus on building trust, confidence and positive outcomes for every child.
The Role
As an SEMH Learning Mentor, you'll be supporting pupils throughout the school day, helping them regulate their emotions, engage with learning and develop positive relationships. You'll work closely with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff to provide consistent support both inside and outside the classroom.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, Autism and ADHD
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Providing 1:1 and small group support
- Helping pupils manage their emotions and remain engaged in learning
- Working alongside teachers and therapeutic staff to implement individual support strategies
- Encouraging confidence, independence and positive behaviour throughout the school day
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs
- Have a background in youth work, SEN support, residential care, alternative provision or a similar setting
- Be calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations
- Be able to build strong relationships and communicate effectively
- Be passionate about making a positive difference in young people's lives
This role would also suit graduates looking to build a career in SEND, Educational Psychology, Social Work, Teaching or Mental Health.
