SEMH Maths Teacher – Mole Valley, Surrey
- Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
- Contract: Permanent, full-time, term time only, 8am to 4pm
- Start date: September 2026, or the October half-term if that suits your notice period

If you already teach maths in a SEN or specialist setting, you know the gap between what a job description promises and what actually happens once term starts. Planning time gets swallowed by cover. Curriculum decisions get made without anyone who teaches maths in the room. This role works differently. Leadership here gives you proper planning time, treats collaboration between teaching and therapy staff as standard practice, and is building towards a Head of Maths position as the department takes shape, with you shaping it.
About the School and the Children
This SEN school in Mole Valley, Surrey, supports pupils aged 7 to 16 with autism, ADHD and SEMH. Many arrive carrying high anxiety, low confidence and past experiences that made school feel unsafe, and maths is often the subject where that shows up most visibly. Lessons are taught in small groups of 6 to 8, with a SEN Teacher and an LSA in every class, working towards a 1:4 ratio across the school. Candidates commonly travel from Guildford, Leatherhead, Epsom and Reigate.
Your Role
- Plan and deliver maths lessons adapted for pupils working below age-related expectations
- Build pupils' confidence and self-esteem alongside their numeracy skills
- Work closely with SEN Teachers, LSAs and therapy staff to support each pupil's EHCP targets
- Prepare pupils for GCSEs and equivalent qualifications
- Help shape the direction of the maths department as it takes form
What You Will Bring
- QTS with experience teaching maths in a SEN or specialist setting
- Confidence in adapting the curriculum for pupils with autism, ADHD or SEMH
- Experience supporting pupils with EHC Plans and high levels of anxiety
- An interest in taking on more responsibility as the department develops
- Mainstream maths teachers ready to move into a specialist setting are also welcome to apply
