SEMH Outreach Mentor
£120–£125 per day PAYE
Long Term Contract - Temporary to Permanent
East London
Are you passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and helping them achieve positive outcomes?
We are working with an exceptional therapeutic outreach service that operates across London and is committed to a genuine no-exclusion policy. The service supports some of the most vulnerable, high-risk, and hardest-to-reach young people, providing intensive support to help them re-engage with education, develop emotional regulation skills, and build brighter futures.
As an SEMH Outreach Mentor, you will work closely with young people who may have been out of formal education for several years and are currently unable to access a traditional classroom environment. You will play a key role in supporting their induction, assessment, and transition back into education over a two-term period.
About the Young People
The young people supported by this service often have:
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
- ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) diagnoses
- Complex additional needs
- Histories of trauma, exploitation, neglect, or abuse
- Experiences of exclusion from education
Many require consistent, nurturing support from trusted adults who can help them build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.
As an SEMH Outreach Mentor, you will:
- Build meaningful and trusting relationships with young people
- Support engagement with education and personal development
- Deliver mentoring and therapeutic-informed interventions
- Assist with assessments and transition planning
- Work collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals
- Help young people develop emotional regulation and coping strategies
The Impact
This service has an outstanding track record of helping young people successfully return to education, training, or employment.
For example, one young person who had experienced multiple exclusions, low school attendance, PTSD, and significant behavioural challenges was supported by an Outreach Practitioner. Through consistent intervention and relationship-based support, they successfully transitioned into a specialist school, achieved over 90% attendance, engaged in restorative programmes, and began thriving within a bespoke curriculum.
This is an opportunity to be part of similar success stories and make a genuine difference in young people's lives.

- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
- A background in education, youth work, mentoring, support work, social care, or similar
- Strong relationship-building skills

- A passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable young people
