A specialist SEND school in Hillingdon is looking for a dedicated SEMH Occupational Therapist to join its team and support young people with a range of additional needs.

The setting

The school supports young people aged 11–19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, alongside a range of additional needs.

This includes a high proportion of pupils with Autism, as well as young people with speech, language and social communication needs, ADHD and other complex needs.

The setting takes a holistic approach to supporting pupils, with access to therapeutic support alongside education. The aim is to help young people overcome barriers, develop independence and build the skills they need for their next steps in life.

The role

As a SEMH Occupational Therapist, you will:

• Complete occupational therapy assessments across a varied SEND caseload

• Identify barriers affecting pupils' participation, independence and learning

• Develop individualised therapy programmes and practical strategies

• Support pupils with sensory, functional, developmental and emotional needs

• Work alongside education staff to embed therapeutic strategies into the school day

• Provide advice and guidance to staff supporting individual pupils

• Contribute to EHCP assessments, reviews and written reports where required

• Monitor progress and adapt interventions according to individual needs

• Work collaboratively with families and other professionals

• Help develop a consistent, pupil-centred approach to occupational therapy within the setting

Who this is for

This role would suit an Occupational Therapist with experience working with children and young people who is looking for a specialist education environment.

You will ideally have experience within paediatrics, SEND, schools or another relevant clinical setting and understand how occupational therapy can support participation, independence and wellbeing.

You will be:

• HCPC registered

• Confident carrying out assessments and developing interventions

• A strong clinical thinker

• Comfortable working with young people with complex needs

• Able to build positive relationships with pupils and education staff

• Organised and confident producing professional reports

• Collaborative and open to multidisciplinary working

• Committed to person-centred practice

Experience supporting young people with Autism, SEMH, sensory needs or communication difficulties would be particularly beneficial.
