SEMH Primary Teacher Job – Specialist SEND Provision
I am recruiting for a qualified Primary Teacher to work within a specialist alternative provision supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is not a mainstream teaching role with light SEND exposure. This is a dedicated SEMH setting for primary-aged pupils who:
- Have experienced permanent exclusion or are at risk of exclusion
- Present with emotional dysregulation and trauma responses
- Have ADHD, Autism traits, attachment needs
- May have EHCPs
- Struggle to engage in large mainstream classrooms

About the Setting
- Small class sizes

SEMH Primary Teacher Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver differentiated KS1 or KS2 lessons
- Adapt curriculum for pupils with SEMH, ADHD, Autism and attachment needs
- Implement behaviour support plans and EHCP targets
- Use de-escalation and restorative approaches confidently
- Build predictable routines that support regulation
- Track both academic and emotional progress
- Work closely with teaching assistants and pastoral leads
- Liaise with families and external professionals
Progress in this setting may look like:
- A pupil remaining in class for a full session
- A reduction in incidents
- Successful restorative conversations
- Improved attendance and engagement
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven experience teaching pupils with SEMH needs
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Experience in Alternative Provision, PRU or specialist SEND settings
- Emotional resilience and professional boundaries
Applications without relevant SEMH/SEND experience will not be shortlisted.
This role is not suitable for teachers seeking a standard mainstream classroom position.
