SEMH Primary Teacher | Permanent | September Start | £40,317–£62,496

What does it take to walk into a classroom where every child arrives carrying something heavy, and still make the room feel safe, structured and full of possibility?

Not perfection. Not an unflappable exterior. What it takes is someone who understands that for children whose lives outside school have often been unpredictable, a teacher who holds the room with warmth and firmness and consistency can be genuinely life-changing.

This small, specialist primary school is looking for a teacher who gets that. If that sounds like you, read on.

The Setting

Fifteen children. Three classes. An environment built entirely around the needs of pupils who have not been able to thrive in mainstream schools. This is a school where size is a deliberate choice, where every adult knows every child, and where the level of therapeutic and specialist support on site is genuinely exceptional.

You will have two experienced Teaching Assistants alongside you in the classroom. Beyond that, the wider team includes a psychotherapist, a behaviour lead and a family liaison officer. Speech and Language Therapy is available twice a week. Occupational Therapy comes in once a week. The infrastructure here exists because the people running this school understand what it actually takes to support children with the most complex profiles, and they have built accordingly.

The Role

You will be taking on a class of younger children, most of whom will be joining the school as new pupils in September. This means you will be building relationships from scratch, establishing routines, and creating the conditions under which children who have often found school frightening or overwhelming begin to feel something different.

Day to day, you will:

  • Deliver creative, adaptive, highly structured teaching to a small group of children with complex needs
  • Differentiate across multiple levels simultaneously within a single session
  • Work as part of a genuinely multidisciplinary team, alongside therapists, support staff and specialist leads
  • Contribute to the calm, predictable rhythms of the school day that these pupils depend on
  • Support pupils whose profiles frequently include high-functioning Autism alongside ADHD, trauma or significant family complexity

Who This Is For

  • Qualified teachers, including ECTs and NQTs, who bring energy, adaptability and a genuine belief in every child's capacity to learn
  • People who are not easily rattled and can hold a room with both warmth and authority
  • Teachers who are comfortable with complexity, who can hold multiple priorities at once and adjust in the moment
  • Those with experience of behaviour management in specialist or alternative provision, though this is not essential as full training is provided
  • Anyone who has known from the beginning that they wanted to work with children who need more, not less

What You Will Get

  • A permanent contract from September, a straight appointment into a stable, long-term role
  • Two dedicated TAs in your classroom every day
  • Onsite access to a psychotherapist, behaviour lead, family liaison officer, SALT and OT
  • Ongoing CPD and specialist training throughout your career with the school
  • The experience of working in one of the most genuinely supportive small school environments in London
  • Full and dedicated support throughout the recruitment process from Daniel at Parker Smith Inclusion

Why This Role Matters

The children who attend this school have, in many cases, already experienced what it feels like when an educational environment is not built for them. They have struggled, been excluded, been misunderstood. What this school offers them is something categorically different, and the teacher who stands at the front of this classroom in September will be part of giving them that.

This is not an easy role. But it is one of the most meaningful you will find. If you are ready for it, we would very much like to speak with you.
