SEMH Primary Teacher – Nurture
Richmond Upon Thames, South West London
£180 – £250 PAYE per day | September 2025 Start | Full-Time | Temp to Permanent
Are you a Primary Teacher with the resilience, creativity, and compassion to work in a specialist SEMH setting?
Do you want to teach in a school where your voice is heard, your well-being is valued, and your work truly matters?
We’re working with a forward-thinking SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) specialist school in South West London. This school supports children aged 11–16, many of whom have experienced disrupted education, trauma, and exclusion. The school follows a trauma-informed, therapeutic model and provides outstanding pastoral and behavioural support.
This opportunity is to teach in the KS2 phase, with a small, well-supported class (up to 8 pupils) and a strong team around you.
The Role – SEMH Primary Teacher
- Full-time teaching role, delivering a broad and accessible KS2 curriculum to KS3 students
- Small class sizes, with high staff-to-student ratios and embedded therapeutic support
- A strong emphasis on emotional regulation, routines, and re-engaging pupils in learning
- Collaborating with Learning Support Assistants, therapists, and behaviour mentors
- Supporting children who may show dysregulated behaviour linked to trauma or neurodiversity
- Using restorative practice, nurture-based approaches, and consistent boundaries
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Primary specialism preferred, but we’re open
- Experience working in SEMH, PRUs, or alternative provisions is ideal, but we welcome teachers with mainstream experience who are passionate about inclusion
- Excellent behaviour management – calm, consistent, and compassionate
- An understanding (or curiosity) around trauma-informed education, attachment needs, and therapeutic approaches
- Someone who believes in second chances, structure, and the power of relationships
Why This School?
- A small, nurturing SEMH school with exceptional leadership
- Clear structures, embedded routines, and strong therapeutic values
- Weekly CPD, including Team Teach and trauma-informed practice
- A team that supports each other – no judgement, just problem-solving
- Temp to perm – long-term security for the right person, no umbrella deductions (PAYE only)
Who Should Apply?
- Experienced SEMH or alternative provision teachers
- Primary Teachers looking for a fresh challenge in a specialist setting
- Former mainstream teachers ready to make a real difference
- Anyone committed to inclusive education and long-term transformation
