SEMH Support Worker | Alternative Provision | Harlesden, Northwest London | £475–£550 per week PAYE

Do you have the kind of presence that a young person in crisis actually listens to?

Can you walk into a room, read what's really going on beneath the surface, and be the calm, consistent adult that a young person has never quite had before? Are you someone who doesn't give up on a young person just because others have?

If that sounds like you, a truly special alternative provision in Harlesden wants to meet you.

The Setting

This is not a mainstream school and it was never meant to be. This is a specialist alternative provision built from the ground up by a senior leadership team who believe that every young person deserves a second chance and a third, and a fourth, if that's what it takes. The young people here aged 11 to 18 have faced real barriers in education, at home, and in their communities. What they need more than anything is a trusted adult who shows up, every single day, and genuinely means it.

The Role

As their new Pastoral Support Worker, you'll be a consistent, trusted presence at the heart of the provision building real relationships with young people who have disengaged from education and supporting their personal development, emotional wellbeing, and gradual re-engagement with learning. You'll work within a multidisciplinary team drawn from diverse youth-facing backgrounds, contributing to a holistic, child-centred model that looks beyond behaviour to understand the whole person. You'll act as a stable and relatable figure for young people who have experienced significant instability, empowering them to build confidence, resilience, and belief in their own potential.

This is not a role for someone looking for a quiet life. This is a role for someone who finds purpose in the most challenging moments and knows that real change in a young person's life is rarely linear but always worth it.

Who This Is For

You might be an experienced pastoral specialist with a background in SEMH settings or alternative provision. You might come from youth work, residential care, or even a custodial or prison setting experience in any environment where young people face significant challenges is genuinely valued here. Whatever your background, you'll need to be calm under pressure, deeply empathetic, resilient, and someone who can engage and motivate a young person that every other setting has struggled to reach.

What You'll Get

A competitive weekly rate of £475 to £550 PAYE, a full-time term-time only contract with a genuine temp-to-perm pathway, a supportive and diverse team that brings real-world experience from across youth-facing sectors, and the chance to do work that makes a lasting difference in the lives of young people who truly need it.

Why This Role Matters

For the young people in this provision, the right pastoral support worker can be the turning point. Not a lesson plan, not a target a person. Someone who believed in them when they had stopped believing in themselves. If you're ready to be that person, we'd very much like to hear from you.
