SEMH Teaching Assistant – Hammersmith, London

£90–£100 per day (PAYE) | Full-Time | Term-Time Only

Some children arrive at school expecting to fail.

This is where that story changes.

In a quiet corner of Hammersmith, there is a specialist school built around strong relationships, structure, and care. It is a place built for children who have been misunderstood, excluded, or let down by education before.

Here, progress is measured not just in grades, but in trust rebuilt, emotions regulated, and belief restored.

We are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant who wants more than a job. This is a role for someone who wants to be part of a turning point in a young person’s life.

The Difference You’ll Make

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you won’t simply support learning. You will help pupils feel safe enough to learn again.

Each day, you will:

  • Stand alongside pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, offering calm, consistent support

  • Help young people make sense of big emotions and challenging behaviour

  • Create structure where there has been chaos, and reassurance where there has been fear

  • Support learning in small groups or 1:1, celebrating progress others might miss

  • Be the trusted adult who shows up, day after day

This role is about presence, patience, and persistence.

The School

This specialist SEMH provision believes that behaviour is communication and that connection comes before compliance.

What defines the school:

  • Small class sizes and personalised support

  • Trauma-informed practice at every level

  • Strong collaboration between teachers, therapists, and support staff

  • A culture where staff are supported, trained, and listened to

You will never be expected to manage challenges alone. You will be part of a team that believes in doing things properly, even when it takes time.

Who This Role Is For

You do not need to be perfect. You do need to care deeply.

This role is ideal for:

  • Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants with SEMH or behaviour experience

  • Graduates aspiring to careers in teaching, psychology, counselling, or social work

  • Individuals from youth work, care, mental health, or alternative education backgrounds

We are looking for someone who:

  • Remains calm when situations are difficult

  • Understands that trust is earned slowly

  • Sets clear boundaries with warmth and consistency

  • Sees potential where others see problems

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional needs

  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

  • Willingness to complete compliance and background checks

What You’ll Receive

  • £90–£100 per day (PAYE)

  • Full-time, term-time stability

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • Supportive leadership and clear structures

  • Experience that opens doors across education and mental health careers

Why This Role Matters

Long after timetables are forgotten, pupils remember how adults made them feel.

They remember who stayed calm. Who didn’t give up. Who believed in them when they couldn’t believe in themselves.

If you want your work to leave a mark that lasts longer than a lesson plan, this role is for you.

Apply today and become part of a school where relationships come first and every child is worth the effort.
