SEMH Teaching Assistant

Enfield

Temporary to Permanent

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Key Stage 3 team. You will work closely with students who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, young people who may find communication, relationships or emotional regulation challenging, but who flourish when they feel safe, understood and supported.

The school is an inclusive environment where students with a range of needs, SEMH, Autism, ADHD, communication differences and learning difficulties are given the tools they need to develop socially, emotionally and academically. Staff are valued, encouraged to stay long-term, and offered enriching professional development including training, apprenticeships, and pathways into teaching.

Your Role in Their Story

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will become a positive, reliable presence in the life of a young person who needs structure and encouragement to succeed. Your support will help transform their experience of school, turning tough mornings into achievable days.

You will:

  • Support Key Stage 3 students with SEMH needs in lessons, small groups and individual sessions.
  • Help them access learning by breaking tasks down, providing reassurance and building trust.
  • Use communication strategies, verbal and non-verbal to help them express themselves safely.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, positive behaviour and healthy social interaction.
  • Work closely with teachers, mentors and therapists to follow individual support plans.
  • Promote independence, self-esteem and resilience in every student.
  • Provide consistency and calm in moments of frustration or emotional difficulty.
  • Create a safe, structured environment where students can take positive steps forward.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or SEMH (school-based or personal).
  • A calm, patient nature and the ability to stay grounded in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and the ability to adapt to different emotional and academic needs.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and build brighter futures.
  • Teamwork, reliability and a desire to grow professionally.

What’s in It for You?

  • £104 PAYE per day
  • Long-term opportunities and potential for permanent roles
  • High-quality training and professional development
  • The chance to progress into higher-level support roles or teacher training
  • The rewarding experience of making a meaningful difference in a young person’s life

If you’d like to be part of this student’s journey and explore more SEND opportunities, please get in touch. You can call Katie at Parker Smith Inclusion or apply directly through this advert
