SEMH Teaching Assistant - Barnet
Barnet
Full-time, long-term opportunity
Competitive daily rate £95-£110 a day, term time only
Potential for permanent placement
Not just a job. A chance to change a story.
In every classroom, there’s a child who doesn’t quite fit the mould.
The child who’s labelled “challenging.”
The one who struggles to trust adults.
The one who needs someone steady, calm and unshakeably patient.
That’s where you come in.
I’m working with a forward-thinking specialist provision in Barnet looking for an exceptional SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This setting supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, many of whom have experienced disrupted education or trauma. They don’t need perfection - they need consistency, empathy and resilience.
What makes this role different?
This isn’t a “sit at the back of the class” kind of TA role.
You will:
- Build genuine, trusting relationships with students who need a safe adult
- Support emotional regulation and behaviour in a trauma-informed environment
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams
- Celebrate the small wins (because here, they matter the most)
- Help pupils re-engage with education and believe in themselves again
Who thrives here?
You might have:
- Experience in SEMH, PRU, alternative provision or SEN settings
- A background in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or support work
- A calm presence and strong boundaries
- Thick skin and a big heart
Most importantly, you understand that behaviour is communication.
If you’re looking for an easy role, this isn’t it.
If you’re looking for meaningful work that will challenge you, grow you and genuinely make a difference, let’s talk.
