A specialist school in Barnet is looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team ASAP. This role is in a secondary setting that supports students aged 10–19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
This role is about connection, patience, and understanding. You’ll help young people who find school difficult to feel safe, build confidence, and achieve at their own pace. It is described as a nurturing and inclusive setting with a focus on social, creative, and academic development while providing stability during important moments.

Your role as a SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide 1:1 and small group interventions with students
- Help de-escalate challenging situations using positive behaviour strategies
- Model calm, respectful and consistent behaviour.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral leads
- Encourage participation and celebrate all small successes.
- Develop trusting, positive relationships with students over time.

- Start date: ASAP
- Location: Barnet, North West London (good public transport and free parking)
- Pay: £95 - £100 per day (depending on experience), PAYE only (no umbrella deductions)
- Type: Full-time, temp to perm
- Ongoing CPD and Trust-wide training included
This role would suit someone with experience as a:
- Mental Health or Behaviour Support Assistant
- Teaching Assistant in an SEMH or alternative provision setting
- Youth Worker, Support Worker, or Residential Support Worker
- Psychology graduate with practical SEND or mental health experience
- Or simply someone with strong patience, emotional resilience, and a passion for inclusive education
