SEMH Teaching Assistant - Trauma & Behaviour Support

£95 – £110 per day, PAYE only

Full-time, Long-term to permanent, term-time only

Start ASAP

This is not a general Teaching Assistant role.

I am working with a specialist SEMH setting in Richmond that is looking for an experienced, resilient Teaching Assistant who understands behaviour, trauma, and emotional regulation.

This role suits someone who already knows that progress does not come from sanctions or quick fixes, but from relationships, consistency, and calm, regulated adults.

The School

This is a specialist provision supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, often alongside additional needs such as Autism, trauma, and attachment difficulties.

Many pupils have experienced disrupted education and struggle to regulate emotions in mainstream environments.

The approach is relationship-led and trauma-informed. Behaviour is understood in context, and pupils are supported to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.

This is not a reward-and-sanction environment.

Your role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be a consistent adult presence for pupils who need stability and clear, calm boundaries.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH, emotional regulation, and behaviour
  • Working closely with teachers to support learning and engagement
  • Helping pupils manage transitions and challenging moments
  • Building strong, professional relationships over time
  • Supporting routines and structure throughout the school day

This is a hands-on role that requires emotional resilience and confidence.

Who this role is for

  • Have experience working with SEMH, behaviour, or trauma
  • Have experience working with Autism/ASC and ADHD
  • Have worked in schools, PRUs, specialist provisions, youth work, or care
  • Are calm under pressure and not reactive
  • Understand that behaviour is communication
  • Are looking for a role with responsibility and purpose

This role is not suitable for someone with only mainstream TA experience and no SEMH exposure.
