Contract: Full-time, term-time only, temporary to permanent

Do you believe the right adult, at the right time, can help a young person rewrite their story?

You won’t just be supporting behaviour. You’ll be helping rebuild trust, restore confidence, and create the foundations for a brighter future.

A specialist SEN school in Harlesden is looking for a School Youth Worker to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a role for someone who understands that behaviour is communication. That behind the anger, shutdowns, defiance or silence, there is often a young person who has learned the world isn’t always safe.

This school offers something different. A structured, relationship-led environment where pupils are met with consistency, clear boundaries, and adults who stay calm when life feels chaotic. Many pupils have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or repeated setbacks. Here, they are supported to rebuild trust, regulate emotions, and re-engage with learning in a way that feels achievable.

The role
As a School Youth Worker, you will be a steady presence throughout the school day. You will provide 1:1 and small group mentoring for pupils who struggle with emotional regulation, social interaction, confidence and engagement. You will support pupils during lessons, transitions and unstructured times, helping them navigate difficult moments using restorative, trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches.

You will work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to contribute to behaviour plans, interventions and EHCP targets, ensuring every pupil has the support they need to move forward.

This is an active, hands-on role. Your consistency will be your biggest strength.

Who this role suits
This role would suit someone with experience supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional needs. You may come from a background in youth work, mentoring, care, alternative provision, or pastoral support.

You will be calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent, with the ability to remain grounded when a pupil is struggling. You will be someone who understands that progress is not always linear, but every small step matters.

This is not a passive classroom role. It’s for someone who wants to be present, involved, and part of a team that believes every young person deserves another chance.

What’s on offer
£90–£110 per day, depending on experience
PAYE only, no umbrella companies
Full-time, term-time position
Temporary to permanent pathway
Ongoing training in SEMH, behaviour support and trauma-informed practice
Supportive leadership and a strong staff culture
Long-term progression opportunities within specialist education

Why this role matters
For some pupils, school has never felt like a safe place. As a School Youth Worker in Harlesden, you will help change that. You will be one of the key adults who helps a young person feel understood, supported, and capable again.

You won’t just be supporting behaviour. You’ll be helping rebuild trust, restore confidence, and create the foundations for a brighter future.
