SEMH Youth Worker
Location: Harlesden, Brent, North West London
Pay: £90–£110 per day (PAYE only)
Contract: Full-time, term-time only, temporary to permanent

Can you be the calm, consistent adult who helps a young person feel safe enough to try again?

A specialist SEN school in Harlesden is looking for an SEMH Youth Worker to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Many pupils have experienced disrupted education, trauma, anxiety, or repeated setbacks. This school offers structure, boundaries and strong relationships to help young people rebuild trust, regulate emotions and re-engage with learning.

The role
You will support pupils throughout the school day, including lessons, transitions, break and lunch. You will provide 1:1 and small group mentoring, help pupils manage emotions, and respond to challenging moments using restorative, trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches.

You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and therapists to follow behaviour plans, contribute to interventions and support EHCP targets. Most importantly, you will build trusting relationships with pupils who may find it difficult to trust adults.

Who this role suits
This role is ideal for someone with experience in SEMH, behaviour support, youth work, mentoring, care, alternative provision or pastoral support.

You will be calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent, with the confidence to stay steady when pupils are struggling. This is an active, hands-on role for someone who wants to make a real difference.

What’s on offer
£90–£110 per day depending on experience
PAYE only (no umbrella)
Full-time, term-time only
Temporary to permanent pathway
Training in SEMH, trauma-informed practice and behaviour support
Supportive leadership and strong staff culture

Why this role matters
