1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Science Specialism

Salary: £90 – £100 per day PAYE

About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant with a Science specialism to join a supportive educational provision in Wembley Park. This is a 1:1 role working with students who have a variety of additional needs, including ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), and ADHD.
You will play a key role in helping students engage with science lessons, develop practical skills, and build confidence in a hands-on, inclusive learning environment. This is a perfect opportunity for someone passionate about both SEND and science education.
Key Responsibilities

Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support, with a focus on science learning and practical experiments

Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and confidence-building

Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging science lessons and activities

Help create a safe, structured, and stimulating classroom environment

Implement EHCP targets and personalised learning approaches in science and other subjects

Provide emotional and pastoral support to students with complex needs

Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure coordinated support
Requirements
-
Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly ASC, SEMH, or ADHD
-
Strong background or interest in science teaching, including practical experiments and lab-based activities

Calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour management

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Good literacy and numeracy abilities

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience in SEN schools, PRUs, or alternative provisions

Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches

Experience in youth work, care, or psychology-based roles
-
Resilient, flexible, and proactive approach to learning support

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
