1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Science Specialism
Location: Wembley
Salary: £90 – £100 per day PAYE

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant with a Science specialism to join a supportive educational provision in Wembley Park. This is a 1:1 role working with students who have a variety of additional needs, including ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), and ADHD.

You will play a key role in helping students engage with science lessons, develop practical skills, and build confidence in a hands-on, inclusive learning environment. This is a perfect opportunity for someone passionate about both SEND and science education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support, with a focus on science learning and practical experiments

  • Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and confidence-building

  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging science lessons and activities

  • Help create a safe, structured, and stimulating classroom environment

  • Implement EHCP targets and personalised learning approaches in science and other subjects

  • Provide emotional and pastoral support to students with complex needs

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure coordinated support

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly ASC, SEMH, or ADHD

  • Strong background or interest in science teaching, including practical experiments and lab-based activities

  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour management

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Good literacy and numeracy abilities

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in SEN schools, PRUs, or alternative provisions

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches

  • Experience in youth work, care, or psychology-based roles

  • Resilient, flexible, and proactive approach to learning support

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
