SEN Teacher – Barking & Dagenham
£160–£220 per day PAYE
Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Long-Term Role
“The smallest steps can lead to the biggest breakthroughs.”
In a specialist school in Barking & Dagenham, children with complex needs are learning to connect, grow, and thrive — at their own pace, in their own way. What they need most is a teacher who understands that progress looks different for every child.
This is a setting for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and autism. Many are non-verbal. Some require medical or physical support. All deserve a teacher who leads with empathy, curiosity, and calm.
We’re looking for someone who teaches with intention — who knows that before learning can happen, trust must come first.
What you’ll do:
-
Lead a small class with the support of skilled Learning Support Assistants
-
Plan and deliver a creative, sensory-based curriculum tailored to each child’s needs
-
Use a range of communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, AAC) to support understanding and engagement
-
Work closely with therapists, families, and a compassionate multi-disciplinary team
-
Create a safe, predictable, and nurturing environment that allows students to feel secure and seen
Who we’re looking for:
-
A qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) with a passion for inclusive education
-
Experience working with SEN, or a strong desire to learn and grow in this area
-
Emotionally resilient, patient, and reflective in your approach
-
Committed to building strong, respectful relationships with pupils and colleagues alike
This school is more than a workplace — it’s a community built on care, trust, and purpose. If you’re looking to do work that leaves a lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you.
