SEN Teacher

Location: Harrow, North West London
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £194.21 – £287.97 per day (MPS1–UPS1 equivalent) plus SEN allowance
Start Date: ASAP

If you are a primary teacher who wants your work to genuinely matter, this role offers depth, purpose and long-term impact rather than surface-level progress measures.

This position sits within a primary specialist setting supporting children from early years through to age 11. Pupils present with severe and complex learning needs including Autism/ASC, SLD, PMLD, significant developmental delay, sensory processing differences, physical and mobility needs and, for some, complex medical profiles. Many pupils are non-verbal or use alternative and augmentative communication and require a highly structured, predictable and emotionally safe learning environment.

The Setting

This is a calm, purpose-designed primary SEND environment where education is built around regulation, communication, and individual development. Class sizes are small, staffing ratios are high, and learning is personalised rather than curriculum-led. Progress is measured in engagement, independence, communication and wellbeing as much as academic milestones.

The Role

As a Primary SEN Teacher, I will expect you to:

  • Plan and deliver highly personalised learning experiences aligned to EHCP outcomes

  • Teach pupils with Autism, SLD and PMLD using structured, sensory-aware and developmentally appropriate approaches

  • Create a calm, predictable classroom environment that prioritises emotional regulation and safety

  • Support pupils’ communication, interaction, independence and life skills

  • Use trauma-informed and child-centred strategies to support behaviour and engagement

  • Work closely with experienced teaching assistants, therapists and wider professionals

  • Monitor progress in a meaningful, realistic and child-centred way

Who Thrives in This Role

This role is not suited to teachers looking for a short-term post or those unsure about working with complex needs. It suits someone who:

  • Has QTS and either solid SEND experience or a genuine, informed commitment to specialist practice

  • Is emotionally intelligent, patient and resilient

  • Understands that progress may be slow, non-linear and deeply individual

  • Values teamwork and shared responsibility within the classroom

  • Is motivated by long-term impact and meaningful relationships with pupils

What Is Offered

  • Permanent, full-time role within a supportive specialist primary setting

  • Salary paid to scale (MPS1–UPS1) plus SEN allowance

  • Structured induction and ongoing SEND-focused training

  • Strong collaborative culture with shared planning and support

  • Access to specialist resources and adapted learning environments

  • Clear commitment to staff wellbeing and professional sustainability

  • PAYE-only employment through a transparent, ethical SEND specialist recruitment consultancy
