SEN Teacher – SEND | Camden

Camden, North London
SEN Teacher / SEND Teacher / Special Needs Teacher
Full-time | Term-time

Teaching pupils with SEND often requires a different way of looking at progress.

A successful lesson may involve a pupil engaging for longer than they did the week before, communicating a need independently, managing a transition more confidently or making progress towards an individual EHCP outcome.

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting SEN Teachers across Camden for specialist and inclusive education settings where teaching is highly personalised around the needs of the pupils.

What will you be doing?

As an SEN Teacher, you may be responsible for:

  • Planning and delivering differentiated lessons for pupils with additional needs

  • Adapting teaching methods and resources around individual learning profiles

  • Creating an organised and supportive classroom environment

  • Supporting academic, social, emotional and communication development

  • Using EHCP targets and assessment information to shape learning

  • Tracking and evidencing pupil progress

  • Managing and directing Teaching Assistants effectively

  • Working alongside therapists, pastoral teams and other education professionals

  • Contributing to annual reviews and individual pupil planning

  • Building positive relationships with pupils and their families

  • Maintaining clear safeguarding and professional standards

Each SEND setting is different, so we will always talk you through the pupils, expectations and working environment before discussing your profile with a school.

What experience are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification

  • Experience planning and delivering lessons

  • The ability to adapt teaching for different levels of ability and need

  • Strong behaviour and classroom management skills

  • A patient, reflective and consistent approach

  • The confidence to lead and support Teaching Assistants within the classroom

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities

Desirable:

  • Previous SEN Teacher or SEND Teacher experience

  • Experience within a special school, SEND provision or alternative setting

  • Experience teaching pupils with autism, SEMH, complex needs, communication needs or other SEND

  • Knowledge of EHCPs and personalised curriculum planning

  • Additional SEND training or qualifications

Teachers from mainstream backgrounds who are looking to move into SEND are welcome to apply where they can demonstrate relevant experience and a genuine understanding of adaptive teaching.

Why move into SEND teaching?

SEND teaching gives you the opportunity to work with pupils in a much more individualised way.

Rather than following one approach for an entire class, you may need to think carefully about communication, sensory needs, regulation, motivation and what success looks like for each pupil.

It can suit teachers who enjoy being creative, working collaboratively and seeing the impact that consistent, thoughtful teaching can have over time.
