SEN Teacher Job | Primary SEND | Autism and SEMH

This SEN Teacher role is within a specialist primary SEND setting supporting pupils with Autism and ASC, SEMH, ADHD, communication needs, sensory processing differences and additional learning needs including SLD.

This is a specialist SEN teaching position. It is not suitable for teachers without genuine SEND experience or interest.

Pupils in this setting often present with emotional regulation difficulties, trauma related behaviours and communication challenges. Behaviour is understood as communication and the approach is relationship led, trauma informed and child centred.

This role is ideal for a teacher who wants to build or continue a career in SEND education and make a meaningful long term impact.

SEN Teacher Responsibilities

As a SEN Teacher, you will:

  • Teach a small class of pupils with Autism, ASC and SEMH

  • Adapt the primary curriculum for SEND learners

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour needs

  • Use trauma informed and attachment aware approaches

  • Create a calm, safe and structured classroom environment

  • Support pupils with communication needs

  • Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff

  • Monitor progress and contribute to EHCP targets

  • Liaise with families and professionals where appropriate

  • Record progress and maintain accurate documentation


The Reality of the Role

This role includes working with pupils who may be dysregulated, distressed or unable to access learning at times. There may be challenging behaviour linked to unmet needs, trauma or communication difficulties.

This is a highly rewarding role for teachers who are resilient, patient and emotionally intelligent.
