SEN Teacher – Special School, Merton
Are you a dedicated, creative, and experienced SEN Teacher passionate about making a real difference for children with Autism and associated needs? We are seeking a highly skilled teacher to join our specialist school in Merton, supporting pupils aged 4–11 with a primary diagnosis of Autism, alongside ADHD, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, and associated behavioural challenges.
The Role:
As an SEN Teacher at our school, you will:

Plan and deliver a bespoke, accessible curriculum tailored to the individual learning needs of pupils with Autism and additional needs.

Support pupils who are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication, using a variety of communication methods including Makaton, PECs, PODD, and visual supports.

Work closely with therapists, teaching assistants, and specialists to understand and address challenging behaviour, focusing on the function of behaviour and strategies to support self-regulation.

Implement evidence-based Autism strategies, including TEACCH, Attention Autism, and PODD, in classroom practice.

Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Be flexible and adaptive, working with children across Key Stages 1 and 2, and tailoring lessons creatively to meet diverse needs.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone who:

Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Has proven experience teaching pupils with Autism, including those who are non-verbal and/or have challenging behaviours.

Is confident using alternative communication systems such as Makaton, PECs, and PODD.

Has a strong understanding of autism strategies and approaches and can apply them in practice.

Is creative, flexible, and solution-focused, able to think outside the box to engage pupils and deliver meaningful learning experiences.

Is compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting pupils to reach their full potential.
