Are you a dedicated, creative, and experienced SEN Teacher passionate about making a real difference for children with Autism and associated needs? We are seeking a highly skilled teacher to join our specialist school in Merton, supporting pupils aged 4–11 with a primary diagnosis of Autism, alongside ADHD, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, and associated behavioural challenges.

The Role:

As an SEN Teacher at our school, you will:

  • Plan and deliver a bespoke, accessible curriculum tailored to the individual learning needs of pupils with Autism and additional needs.

  • Support pupils who are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication, using a variety of communication methods including Makaton, PECs, PODD, and visual supports.

  • Work closely with therapists, teaching assistants, and specialists to understand and address challenging behaviour, focusing on the function of behaviour and strategies to support self-regulation.

  • Implement evidence-based Autism strategies, including TEACCH, Attention Autism, and PODD, in classroom practice.

  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

  • Be flexible and adaptive, working with children across Key Stages 1 and 2, and tailoring lessons creatively to meet diverse needs.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Has proven experience teaching pupils with Autism, including those who are non-verbal and/or have challenging behaviours.

  • Is confident using alternative communication systems such as Makaton, PECs, and PODD.

  • Has a strong understanding of autism strategies and approaches and can apply them in practice.

  • Is creative, flexible, and solution-focused, able to think outside the box to engage pupils and deliver meaningful learning experiences.

  • Is compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting pupils to reach their full potential.

What We Offer:

  • A specialist, supportive, and collaborative environment where every child’s progress is valued.

  • Professional development opportunities to expand your expertise in Autism and SEN teaching.

  • A passionate and dedicated team committed to inclusive education and innovation in teaching.

  • The chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of children with complex needs.
