About the role
Some young people need more than academic support to succeed at school.
They may need an adult who understands their communication, recognises when they are becoming overwhelmed and can remain calm when behaviour becomes challenging.
A specialist SEND provision in Southall is recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to support autistic students with severe learning difficulties and behaviours of concern.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is patient, consistent and able to build genuine trust with young people who may need a different approach to learning.
The setting
You will be working within a specialist environment supporting autistic students with a range of complex learning and developmental needs.
The setting provides structured, individualised support designed around each student's communication, learning and personal development.
You will work alongside teachers and specialist staff to help students access learning, manage challenging situations and develop greater independence.
The role
You will:

Provide one-to-one and small group support
-
Support students with autism and severe learning difficulties
-
Help students access lessons and daily activities
-
Encourage communication, independence and positive interaction
-
Respond calmly and consistently to behaviours of concern
-
Follow individual support and behaviour strategies
-
Build positive, trusting relationships with students
-
Work closely with teachers and specialist colleagues
-
Contribute to a safe and structured learning environment
Personal care
Personal care is not an immediate requirement for new candidates and will be introduced in line with appropriate safeguarding procedures and training.
However, candidates should be comfortable with personal care becoming part of the role in the longer term. Hydrotherapy is not required.
Who we are looking for
Previous experience with autism, complex SEND, severe learning difficulties or behaviours of concern would be beneficial.
We will also consider candidates from care, residential, youth work, support work or other relevant backgrounds.
