SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School | Barnet
Barnet, North London | £95–£100 per day | Full-time only | Monday–Friday
Some pupils need more than someone sitting beside them in a classroom. They need an adult who learns how they communicate, understands when they need space or encouragement, and celebrates progress that other people might overlook.
Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to work full-time within specialist SEND settings across Barnet.
This could suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant, but we are equally interested in people with relevant experience from care, youth work, support work or other child-focused environments.
What could your day involve?
No two days within SEND are exactly the same. Depending on the setting and pupils you support, you could be:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group learning support
- Helping pupils communicate their needs and choices
- Supporting children with autism, learning difficulties and additional needs
- Encouraging independence rather than doing everything for the pupil
- Helping pupils regulate when they feel overwhelmed
- Supporting sensory, communication and educational activities
- Working alongside teachers and other SEND professionals
- Building the consistent relationships that allow pupils to feel secure at school
Who are we looking for?
Essential:
- Able to commit to full-time, Monday–Friday work
- Patient, reliable and emotionally mature
- Comfortable adapting your communication to individual pupils
- Interested in developing your understanding of SEND
- Able to work consistently as part of a wider school team
Desirable:
- Previous SEN/SEND experience
- Experience with autism or learning difficulties
- Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Support Worker experience
- Experience supporting children or vulnerable young people
Why this type of role?
SEND support gives you the chance to see progress in a completely different way.
A pupil communicating a need independently, joining an activity they previously avoided, managing a difficult transition or completing something without adult prompting can all be significant achievements.
You become part of that progress.
Working with Parker Smith Inclusion
We specialise exclusively in SEND recruitment, so we understand that the right school environment matters just as much as the job title.
You will receive honest advice, specialist SEND support and PAYE placements where applicable, with somebody available throughout your placement rather than disappearing once you start.
If you are looking for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant role in Barnet, apply today. I would be happy to speak with you about your experience and the type of SEND setting that would suit you.
Parker Smith Inclusion is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Successful applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, references and an Enhanced DBS check where required.
