SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School | Camden
Camden, North West London | £95–£100 per day | Full-time only | Monday–Friday
A good SEN Teaching Assistant doesn't need to have all the answers on day one.
What matters is being observant enough to notice what works, patient enough to try again when something doesn't, and consistent enough for a pupil to know they can rely on you.
Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting full-time SEN Teaching Assistants for specialist SEND settings across Camden.
We are looking for people who genuinely want to understand the children and young people they support rather than simply gain some classroom experience.
What does an SEN Teaching Assistant actually do?
Depending on the pupils and setting, you may:
- Support learning individually and within small groups
- Break activities down into manageable steps
- Support pupils with autism, learning difficulties and communication needs
- Encourage communication, interaction and independence
- Recognise when a pupil needs reassurance, structure or space
- Support emotional regulation
- Help pupils access classroom and wider school activities
- Work closely with teachers and the wider SEND team
You will gradually learn each pupil's individual communication style, triggers, strengths and interests.
That understanding is often what makes the biggest difference.
What we need from you
Essential:
- Availability for full-time work, five days per week
- Patience and consistency
- Good communication skills
- Reliability and professionalism
- A genuine interest in working within SEND
Desirable:
- School or SEN experience
- Autism or learning difficulties experience
- Experience as an SEN TA, SEND TA or Learning Support Assistant
- Care, support work, youth work or mentoring experience
Why people stay in SEND
It isn't always the big moments.
Sometimes the most rewarding progress is a pupil beginning to trust you, communicating something independently or attempting an activity they would previously have avoided.
Those small changes can mean a great deal to the pupil.
