SEN Teaching Assistant

Pay: £90–£100 per day (PAYE only)
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start Date: ASAP

Do you believe that the right adult can help an autistic child feel safe enough to communicate, connect and learn?

A specialist provision in Neasden, Brent is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team and support pupils with Autism (ASC), non-verbal communication and complex needs. This is a role for someone who understands that progress is not always loud or obvious. Sometimes it looks like a child staying in the room for longer, making eye contact for the first time, trying a new routine, or trusting an adult enough to accept support.

This is not a general classroom TA role. It requires patience, emotional consistency and a calm, grounded presence throughout the day. You will be supporting children who need structure, predictable routines and adults who understand sensory processing, regulation and communication differences.

The role
You will support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them access learning in a way that works for them. You will use visuals, structured routines and communication tools such as AAC to support engagement and understanding. You will help children manage sensory input, navigate transitions and regulate their emotions in a safe and supportive way. You will work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to follow individual plans and contribute to a consistent approach. You will celebrate small but meaningful steps forward and understand that building trust is often the foundation of learning.

Who this role suits
This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting autistic children, pupils who are non-verbal, or children with complex SEN. You will do well if you are calm under pressure, emotionally intuitive and confident responding to dysregulation in a supportive, trauma-informed way. You do not need to know everything already, but you should be genuinely motivated to learn and develop your understanding of sensory needs, communication strategies and regulation. The school is looking for someone reliable, resilient and committed to long-term impact.

The setting
This is a nurturing specialist school with a strong focus on Autism and complex needs. The environment is structured, consistent and built around helping pupils feel safe, understood and supported. Staff work closely as a team and take pride in creating a calm, predictable school day where children can thrive at their own pace.

Pay and support
£90–£100 per day
PAYE only, no umbrella companies
Long-term opportunity, offering stability and consistency for pupils
Ongoing guidance and support from an ethical SEND specialist recruitment consultancy

Why this role matters
For many of these pupils, school is not just about academics. It is about learning to trust, learning to communicate, and learning that they are safe. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be part of that journey every single day.
