SEN Teaching Assistant – Complex Needs, PMLD & Autism (Isleworth) - Hounslow

£90 - £100 - Full time, 5 days

Job Description:

This role is for people who understand that meaningful progress does not always look loud, fast, or academic.

It is for someone who notices the small things. Changes in breathing. A shift in body language. A moment of connection that tells you a child feels safe.

I am recruiting for a specialist SEND setting in the Isleworth area that supports children and young people with complex needs, including PMLD, SLD, Autism (ASC), and significant communication and sensory differences. Many pupils are non-verbal or pre-verbal and require high levels of structure, routine, and adult support throughout the day.

This is a setting where care, education, and dignity are inseparable.

About the Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant supporting complex needs, you will work closely with pupils who require consistent, skilled support to access their day safely and meaningfully.

This includes supporting learning at an individual level, assisting with communication, sensory regulation, and, where required, personal care. Every interaction matters. Every routine is intentional.

This role suits someone who is grounded, patient, and deeply respectful of children who rely on adults to get the basics right every single day.

The Children You Will Support

  • Pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Children with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Autistic children with complex sensory and communication needs
  • Pupils who are non-verbal or use alternative communication methods
  • Children who need support with physical needs and daily care
  • Learners who rely on routine, predictability, and trusted adults

What the Role Involves Day to Day

  • Providing consistent 1:1 or small-group support
  • Supporting communication using visuals, objects of reference, or alternative systems
  • Assisting with sensory regulation and maintaining calm, structured environments
  • Supporting pupils with physical needs and personal care respectfully and professionally
  • Helping pupils engage with learning activities tailored to their abilities
  • Working closely with teachers and therapists to follow care and learning plans
  • Observing pupils carefully and responding to subtle communication cues

An Honest Word About the Role

This work is not rushed, and it is not easy.

It requires emotional maturity, physical awareness, and the ability to remain calm and attentive throughout the day. Some pupils will not communicate in conventional ways, and progress may be slow and deeply individual.

People who thrive here are not motivated by quick results. They value consistency, dignity, and the trust that builds over time.

Who This Role Is For

This role will suit you if:

  • You have experience supporting children or adults with complex needs
  • You are comfortable supporting personal care as part of your role
  • You are patient, observant, and emotionally steady
  • You understand non-verbal communication and sensory needs
  • You are committed to SEND as a meaningful area of work

This role is not suitable for someone unsure about complex needs or personal care responsibilities.
