SEN Teaching Assistants – Barking & Dagenham

Start Date: September 2026
Open to: Experienced and new candidates

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? Whether you’re an experienced SEN teaching assistant looking to transition into a special school, a graduate or volunteer eager to gain hands-on experience, or an agency worker seeking a long-term role, this opportunity could be perfect for you.

We are collaborating with a welcoming and established special school in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The school supports children aged 5–15 with autism, complex needs, and challenging behaviours. As part of a larger trust, it offers ongoing professional development, training opportunities, and a nurturing environment to support your career growth.

No prior professional experience in a school is necessary. Personal experience, volunteering, or just a genuine interest in supporting children with special needs is enough. What matters most is your empathy, dedication, and desire to make a positive impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with autism and complex needs, including behavioural challenges
  • Assist in classroom activities with one-to-one or small group support
  • Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
  • Provide personal care support as needed
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to help students progress
  • Participate in trial days during the recruitment process

Requirements

  • Experience with children with SEN is preferred but not essential
  • Patient, empathetic, and proactive attitude
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Passion for helping children learn and thrive
  • Relevant qualifications (CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant certificate) are desirable but not required
  • Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one
  • Training in positive handling, early intervention, and personal care is an advantage

Why Choose Parker Smith Inclusion?

  • We match you with specialist schools aligned with your skills and career goals
  • PAYE roles only—no hidden umbrella fees
  • More permanent roles due to low introduction fees
  • Access to exclusive SEND vacancies not advertised elsewhere
  • Honest advice and full transparency about each school and opportunity
  • CV guidance to highlight your SEND experience
  • Interview preparation with insights about the school and process

This is your chance to make a real difference in the lives of children with SEMH, ASC, PMLD, SLD, MLD, and other complex needs. Launch your rewarding SEND career this September.
