A highly specialist SEN school in Brent is looking for a Therapy Assistant to join their established multidisciplinary team, supporting pupils aged 3–19 with autism, communication difficulties, physical disabilities, medical needs, and complex learning needs.
This is a unique opportunity to work closely alongside Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists within a school where therapy is fully integrated into the curriculum and daily learning experience. You will support pupils both in class and through targeted interventions, helping them develop communication, independence, sensory regulation, and engagement skills.
The school is known for its collaborative and therapeutic approach, with therapists, teachers, support staff, and families working together to ensure every pupil receives consistent, personalised support in line with their EHCP outcomes.
As a Therapy Assistant, you will gain valuable experience delivering therapy programmes, supporting communication strategies, and adapting activities to meet a wide range of needs. This role would suit someone considering a future career in SALT, OT, educational psychology, or specialist SEN education.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver therapy-based interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis
• Support pupils with autism, sensory needs, communication difficulties, and complex needs
• Use visual supports, AAC strategies, and sensory resources throughout the school day
• Assist therapists in implementing personalised therapy programmes
• Monitor progress and contribute to observations and reports
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and families
Requirements
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Calm, patient, and proactive approach
• Genuine interest in therapy and child development
• Ability to adapt support strategies to individual pupils
Desirable Experience
• Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or AAC
• Understanding of sensory integration or fine motor interventions
• Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Childcare, or similar
• Experience supporting pupils with autism or complex physical needs
