SEN Tutor - Community, South West London

Start ASAP, full-time, 8:30am to 4:30pm

£130 PAYE per day, weekly pay

Have you spent a year or more in a school and found the one-to-one work is the part you enjoy most?

This SEN Tutor role is with an education service that supports children and young people with SEND who cannot attend school, often due to physical or mental health needs. It is outreach work. You go to the pupil, rather than the pupil coming to you.

Pupils have a range of needs, including ASC, ADHD, SLCN, MLD and SEMH. They come from all age groups, so you will work with both younger children and teenagers. Sessions take place in pupils’ homes and in community places across South West London.

Every pupil you see has been out of school for a reason. Regular sessions with the same tutor give them something steady to build on. The role is long-term, so you have time to get to know each pupil, plan around them and see where they get to.

Your day is spread across several locations, so you will travel between sessions. Much of it is spent working on your own, so good organisation matters. Wimbledon and Hounslow are both good places to commute from.

What you’ll do

  • Plan and deliver one-to-one tuition matched to each pupil’s needs and starting point
  • Adapt your teaching for pupils with ASC, ADHD, SLCN, MLD and SEMH
  • Travel between sessions in homes and community settings
  • Keep clear session notes and share progress with the service and with families
  • Help each pupil rebuild routine and confidence as they work towards their next step

About you

  • You have an interest in SEND and in children and young people who are out of school
  • You have at least one full year of experience working in a school
  • You are comfortable working on your own in a family home or a community space
  • The role would suit an experienced TA, HLTA, cover supervisor, unqualified teacher or tutor with school experience
  • If your year in school was in mainstream, supporting pupils with SEND, that counts too

Why this role

  • Full-time work, so you get to know each pupil and family properly
  • One pupil at a time, with your full attention on their needs
  • A wide mix of ages and needs, which builds broad SEND experience
  • Daytime hours that finish at 4:30pm
  • An ASAP start, so you can begin once your checks are complete

Enhanced DBS and safer recruitment checks apply to this role.
