Experienced SENCo – Immediate Start

Location: East London
Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time

Are you an experienced SENCo looking for a new challenge where your knowledge, resilience and ability to make things happen will genuinely make a difference?

We are working with a specialist independent education setting in East London that supports young people who have struggled to thrive within mainstream education. The setting provides a highly personalised approach for pupils with a range of SEND, EHCP and social, emotional and mental health needs, with small teaching groups and individualised support.

We are looking for an experienced and resilient SENCo who is confident working at pace, can manage competing priorities and is able to take ownership of the school's SEND provision.

This is an immediate-start position, so we are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who are available now or at very short notice.

About the Role

As SENCo, you will take a lead role in coordinating and developing SEND provision across the setting. You will work closely with teaching staff, senior leaders, families and external professionals to ensure that pupils' needs are properly identified, understood and supported.

This is a hands-on role within a busy environment. You will need to be organised, proactive and confident making decisions, whilst maintaining a strong focus on the individual needs and outcomes of each young person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the school's SEND provision.
  • Oversee and monitor provision for pupils with EHCPs and additional needs.
  • Ensure appropriate SEND documentation, records and support plans are maintained.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure appropriate adaptations and interventions are in place.
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers, Local Authorities and external professionals.
  • Contribute to EHCP processes, reviews and annual review meetings.
  • Monitor pupil progress, provision and outcomes for students with SEND.
  • Support staff in developing their understanding of individual pupils' needs.
  • Identify areas where provision can be strengthened and take proactive action.
  • Ensure SEND processes and practice are compliant with statutory requirements.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to develop and improve SEND provision.
  • Advocate for pupils and ensure their individual needs remain at the centre of decision-making.
  • Respond effectively to a fast-changing workload and competing priorities.

The Ideal SENCo

We are looking for someone who is experienced, resilient and highly organised, with the confidence to take ownership of SEND provision within a busy educational environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience working as a SENCo within a school or specialist education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes.
  • Experience coordinating provision for pupils with complex or additional needs.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • The ability to manage a busy workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with parents, professionals and external agencies.
  • The resilience to work with young people who may have experienced significant challenges within education.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • The confidence to challenge, support and advise colleagues where necessary.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people with SEND.

Experience in specialist education, alternative provision, SEMH or working with pupils who have struggled within mainstream education would be highly desirable.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity for an experienced SENCo to take on a key role within a small, personalised educational environment, where SEND is central to the way pupils are supported.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a tangible difference to provision, work closely with a dedicated team and help ensure that young people receive the right support to access education and progress.

The role is ideal for a SENCo who:

  • Has strong SEND knowledge and experience
  • Is resilient and calm under pressure
  • Can manage a fast-paced workload
  • Is confident making decisions and taking ownership
  • Can build strong professional relationships
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for young people with SEND
  • Is available for an immediate start

If you are an experienced SENCo who is ready to step into a role where you can have a genuine impact, we would love to hear from you.
