SEND Intervention Assistant – Literacy & Numeracy | Camden

£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
Camden, Central London
Full-time | Long-term

Not every pupil with SEND needs constant 1:1 support.

Some need the right adult to recognise where the gaps are, break learning down differently and give them enough confidence to try again.

I am recruiting a SEND Intervention Assistant for a Camden school, supporting pupils who require additional help with literacy, numeracy and accessing the curriculum.

This is a particularly good opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who enjoys the academic side of SEND support and wants greater responsibility for targeted intervention.

What would you be doing?

You will work with individuals and small groups who need additional teaching and reinforcement alongside their usual classroom learning.

This may include:

  • Delivering structured literacy and numeracy interventions

  • Revisiting learning in smaller, achievable steps

  • Supporting pupils with SEND who are working below age-related expectations

  • Helping pupils develop confidence as learners

  • Pre-teaching vocabulary and concepts

  • Reinforcing learning following lessons

  • Recording progress and feeding back to teachers

  • Adapting resources for individual learning needs

  • Supporting pupils within the classroom when required

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Previous experience working with school-aged children

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

  • The ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently

  • Confidence working independently with small groups

  • An organised and reliable approach

Desirable:

  • Previous SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant experience

  • Experience delivering interventions

  • Experience supporting dyslexia, ADHD or other learning needs

  • Graduate-level education

  • Experience supporting pupils working below expected levels

Why this role?

This could be ideal if you have reached the stage where you want more ownership than a general classroom support position provides.

You will be able to build relationships with pupils while also developing your ability to plan, deliver and evaluate targeted educational support.

For aspiring teachers, educational psychologists or specialist SEND practitioners, it can provide particularly relevant school-based experience.
