SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Complex Needs Class (Primary) - Newham

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our team in a small, specialised class supporting children with complex needs. This role involves working closely with primary-aged students (5-10 years old) who have Autism, Global Developmental Delay, and Learning Difficulties. Based in Newham, this role is available to start as soon as possible.

About the Role:

You will be working in a small class, providing personalised support to children with complex needs. The role will involve sensory-based learning and phonics to support children’s development, helping them to reach their full potential. There is also an element of personal care involved, so you must be comfortable with assisting in this area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students aged 5-10 with Autism, Global Developmental Delay, and Learning Difficulties in a specialised classroom setting
  • Assist with the delivery of sensory learning activities and phonics programs tailored to the needs of each child
  • Provide one-to-one and group support to help students engage with the curriculum and improve their social and communication skills
  • Aid in the development of individual education plans (IEPs) and work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to meet the specific needs of each child
  • Assist with personal care, including toileting and feeding, as required
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where children feel supported and valued

About You:

  • Previous experience working with children with Autism, Global Developmental Delay, and Learning Difficulties is essential
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing attitude with a genuine passion for helping children with SEN thrive
  • Knowledge of sensory learning, phonics, and behaviour management strategies is desirable
  • Comfortable with providing personal care assistance as part of the role
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
