SEND Teacher – PMLD & Complex Needs – Camden
Inner London M1–M6 | Full-time | January 2027
Teaching pupils with profound and complex learning needs requires a different way of thinking about progress.
The lesson objective matters, but so does the pupil who communicates a preference independently for the first time.
The learner who stays engaged for another few minutes.
The young person who becomes confident enough to explore something unfamiliar.
I am recruiting for a SEND Teacher to work within a specialist setting in Camden, supporting pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs.
This would suit a teacher who enjoys highly individualised teaching and understands that meaningful progress cannot always be measured through traditional academic milestones.
The role
You will take responsibility for a class of pupils requiring significant additional support with their learning, communication and development.
Working alongside a team of support staff and specialist professionals, you will:
-
Plan highly differentiated and individualised learning
-
Teach pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs
-
Create engaging sensory and experiential learning opportunities
-
Support communication, independence and engagement
-
Use assessment meaningfully to identify and celebrate small steps of progress
-
Provide clear direction to Teaching Assistants supporting your class
-
Work collaboratively with families and other professionals
-
Maintain a safe, structured and positive classroom environment
This is not about trying to make pupils fit a traditional curriculum.
It is about adapting teaching so that education becomes accessible and meaningful to the individual pupil.

Specialist SEND settings
You do not necessarily need to have spent your entire career in a special school.
Teachers coming from primary, EYFS or another SEND-focused setting can often bring highly relevant skills, particularly where they have experience adapting learning for pupils working significantly below age-related expectations.
Why consider this role?
SEND teaching gives you the opportunity to know your pupils exceptionally well.
You are not simply delivering lessons.
You are thinking about how each pupil accesses the room, communicates, processes information, engages with others and develops independence.
For the right teacher, that creates a very different relationship with both the pupils and the curriculum.
