The Primary SEN / ASC Teacher Role
This role is based within an EYFS/KS1 class of 7 pupils, supported by 3 Teaching Assistants. All pupils are autistic and are working at early stages of development, with many being pre-verbal and requiring highly personalised approaches to communication and learning.
The school is looking for a creative, energetic, empathetic and passionate teacher who can create an engaging, structured and nurturing learning environment.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality lessons, adapting the curriculum to meet individual needs, managing a class team and working closely with colleagues and external professionals to support pupil progress and development.
The school offers an excellent teacher induction programme and ongoing CPD, making this an excellent opportunity for teachers looking to develop their expertise within SEND.
The role would suit an experienced EYFS or primary teacher with a genuine interest in autism and SEND. Previous experience working in a special school is desirable but not essential — the school has an excellent track record of supporting and developing mainstream teachers who are new to SEND.
About You
The successful candidate will:

Hold QTS or QTLS.

Be passionate about teaching children and young people with SEND.

Have a clear understanding of the needs of pupils with autism.

Demonstrate successful class teaching experience, ideally with pupils with SEN.

Be able to plan and implement effective, engaging classroom practice and management.

Have the ability to develop and adapt curriculum areas according to the needs of the pupils and school.

Demonstrate effective positive behaviour support and behaviour management skills.

Be confident managing a class team and directing Teaching Assistants and other support staff.

Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with pupils for whom communication is a significant barrier to learning.

Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working alongside educational professionals and colleagues from Health and Social Care.

Be committed to working collaboratively and positively with parents and families.

Be creative, energetic, empathetic and committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for every pupil.
