SEN Teacher

Specialist School for Pupils with Complex Needs & PMLD
Location: North London
MPS–UPS | Full-time | Permanent, Temp to Perm or Contract

Are you a patient, reflective teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and supporting pupils with complex needs?

A specialist SEND school in North London is seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join their experienced and supportive team. The school provides education for children and young people with PMLD, alongside physical disabilities, communication differences, and significant developmental needs.

Teaching within this setting is centred on a highly personalised, sensory-informed curriculum. Staff work closely with therapists, support staff, and families to ensure each pupil receives the right balance of structure, care, and opportunity to progress. The focus is on communication, emotional regulation, independence, and enabling pupils to experience success in ways that are meaningful to them.

The Role

You will be teaching a small class of pupils with complex needs, supported by experienced teaching assistants and specialist staff. Strong staffing ratios allow teachers to take a creative, flexible, and child-centred approach, adapting learning to suit each pupil’s abilities, interests, and sensory profile.

The role involves:

  • Planning and delivering personalised learning experiences

  • Using sensory resources, visuals, routines, and therapeutic approaches

  • Supporting communication development and emotional regulation

  • Working collaboratively with therapists, support staff, and families

  • Creating a calm, safe, and nurturing classroom environment

The Ideal Candidate

This role would suit a teacher who:

  • Has experience working with pupils with complex needs and/or PMLD, or a strong interest in this area

  • Is patient, adaptable, and reflective in their practice

  • Is open to using sensory-based and therapeutic teaching approaches

  • Values teamwork, consistency, and collaboration

  • Is committed to ensuring every pupil feels safe, valued, and supported

Applications are welcome from experienced SEND teachers as well as mainstream teachers looking to move into a specialist setting.

Why Join This School?

  • Small class sizes with strong adult support

  • A collaborative, supportive staff team

  • A child-centred ethos that values progress at every level

  • Ongoing professional development and specialist SEND training

  • A highly rewarding role where your impact is visible every day
