SEND Teacher – Autism Specialist School
Location: Hackney, East London
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: Immediate / To be confirmed
Parker Smith Inclusion is working in partnership with an autism specialist school in Hackney to recruit a passionate, proactive and dedicated SEND Teacher to join their team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of autistic children and young people, supporting them to develop academically, socially and emotionally. The school caters for pupils across a range of age groups, so we are keen to hear from teachers who can adapt their approach to meet different learning styles, developmental stages and individual needs.
We are looking for someone who believes that every pupil deserves an ambitious, engaging and meaningful education, regardless of the barriers they may face.
At Parker Smith Inclusion, we understand the importance of finding the right school for the right teacher. We work with schools that value inclusive practice and are committed to supporting teachers who want to build a rewarding career in SEND education.
The Role
As a SEND Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, accessible lessons that reflect the individual needs, abilities and interests of autistic pupils. You will work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and the wider school team to create a positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, understood and encouraged to reach their potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering differentiated lessons that meet pupils' individual learning needs.
- Creating engaging, structured and purposeful learning experiences that encourage participation and progress.
- Adapting teaching strategies, resources and activities to support pupils with different communication styles and developmental needs.
- Establishing positive relationships with pupils, building trust and promoting confidence and independence.
- Working closely with Teaching Assistants to ensure consistent, effective support throughout the school day.
- Monitoring and assessing pupil progress, identifying achievements and areas where additional support may be required.
- Supporting the development of communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and life skills alongside academic learning.
- Creating a safe, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents and carers to support pupils' wider development.
- Following individual education plans and agreed support strategies to help pupils access learning successfully.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a teacher who is enthusiastic, adaptable and genuinely passionate about supporting autistic pupils.
You will ideally have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching pupils with SEND, particularly autistic children and young people, or a strong commitment to developing your career in specialist education.
- A proactive and engaging teaching style that motivates pupils and encourages active participation.
- The ability to differentiate lessons and adapt the curriculum to meet a wide range of learning needs.
- Patience, resilience and a calm, consistent approach when supporting pupils who may experience barriers to learning.
- Strong behaviour management skills and an understanding of positive, person-centred approaches.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, particularly when working alongside Teaching Assistants.
- A commitment to inclusion, high expectations and celebrating individual progress.
Experience within an autism specialist school or another SEND setting would be advantageous. However, we are also interested in hearing from teachers who have relevant mainstream experience and are passionate about moving into specialist education.
Most importantly, we want someone who understands that progress looks different for every pupil and who is willing to adapt their teaching to help each learner succeed.
