SEND Teacher – Maternity Cover | Specialist Primary SEND School
Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £182.57–£278.61 PAYE per day
Contract: Full-time, maternity cover
Start Date: January 2026
Looking for a teaching role where you can make a genuine difference, build meaningful relationships and help children achieve things they may never have thought possible?
We're working with a specialist primary SEND school in Hertfordshire looking to appoint a passionate and committed Class Teacher on a maternity cover basis.
This is an opportunity to join a supportive specialist setting where teaching goes beyond the classroom, progress is recognised in all its forms and every child is encouraged to reach their individual potential.
About the role
You'll take responsibility for a class of pupils with additional needs, creating a structured, engaging and nurturing learning environment that supports their individual development.
Working from pupils' EHCPs, you'll plan and deliver personalised learning programmes, monitor progress and provide opportunities for children to develop their communication, independence, confidence and academic abilities.
You'll also work closely with Learning Support Assistants, families and external professionals to ensure every pupil receives the support they need.
The setting
The school provides specialist primary education for children with a range of additional needs, including:
The setting has a strong focus on individual achievement, teamwork and inclusive learning, with a curriculum shaped around the needs, abilities and aspirations of each pupil.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Planning and delivering creative, engaging and differentiated lessons.
-
Developing personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes.
-
Monitoring, assessing and recording individual pupil progress.
-
Preparing for and contributing to EHCP Annual Reviews.
-
Providing pastoral care and supporting pupils' emotional and social development.
-
Leading and supporting a team of Learning Support Assistants.
-
Building positive relationships with parents, carers and external professionals.
-
Contributing to curriculum planning and development.
-
Taking responsibility for a curriculum area across the school.
Who we are looking for
We're keen to hear from teachers who:
-
Have a genuine passion for working with children with SEND.
-
Can adapt their teaching to meet a range of individual learning needs.
-
Bring patience, creativity, resilience and a nurturing approach.
-
Have strong communication and classroom management skills.
-
Enjoy working collaboratively with support staff and other professionals.
-
Are committed to recognising and celebrating every pupil's progress.
Previous specialist SEND school experience would be beneficial, but it's not necessarily essential. We're also interested in hearing from mainstream teachers looking to develop their experience within specialist education.
Why consider this opportunity?
Not every achievement is measured by a grade or qualification. Sometimes it's a child communicating their needs for the first time, becoming more independent or finding the confidence to participate in a lesson.
As their teacher, you'll play an important part in making those moments happen.
What you can expect
-
A rewarding teaching opportunity within a specialist primary setting.
-
A supportive and collaborative school environment.
-
Responsibility for your own class and a team of LSAs.
-
Opportunities to develop your specialist SEND teaching experience.
-
The chance to contribute to pupils' wider development and school improvement.
-
A competitive daily PAYE rate of £182.57–£278.61.
