SEND Teacher – Specialist School | Hackney
Location: Hackney, East London
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: To be confirmed
Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications
Parker Smith Inclusion is working in partnership with a welcoming and ambitious specialist SEND school in Hackney to recruit a passionate, adaptable and dedicated SEND Teacher to join its team.
This is an opportunity to join a school where education is about much more than academic achievement. The setting takes a holistic approach to supporting children and young people with special educational needs, recognising each pupil's individual strengths, needs and potential.
Catering for pupils aged 5–19, the school provides personalised learning opportunities designed to help students develop academically, socially and emotionally, while building communication, practical life skills and independence. Staff work collaboratively with specialist therapists and support teams to ensure pupils receive the tailored support they need to thrive.
We are looking for a teacher who shares this ethos: someone who sees the individual behind the diagnosis, believes every pupil can make progress and is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for every learner.
The Role
As a SEND Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, individualised learning experiences that reflect pupils' abilities, developmental stages and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
You will work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists and other professionals to ensure that learning is accessible, purposeful and relevant to each pupil's needs and future aspirations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering differentiated lessons that respond to a diverse range of SEND and learning needs.
- Developing personalised learning plans and setting meaningful, achievable targets for individual pupils.
- Adapting the curriculum, teaching strategies and resources to support different communication styles, abilities and developmental needs.
- Creating engaging learning opportunities that promote academic progress, communication, social development and independence.
- Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants to provide consistent, effective support within the classroom.
- Liaising with specialist therapists and other professionals to support pupils' wider educational and developmental needs.
- Monitoring and assessing progress, recognising individual achievements and adapting provision where necessary.
- Supporting pupils to develop confidence, relationships, self-advocacy and practical skills for everyday life.
- For older learners, contributing to appropriate pathways towards qualifications, functional skills, life skills and preparation for adulthood.
- Building positive relationships with pupils and their families, ensuring that individual needs and progress remain central to the learning journey.
- Maintaining a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every pupil feels valued and encouraged to succeed.
The Ideal Candidate
We are keen to hear from teachers who have a genuine passion for specialist education and understand the importance of adapting their approach to suit the individual learner.
You will ideally have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching pupils with SEND in a specialist school or comparable provision.
- The ability to plan and deliver differentiated learning that meets a wide range of needs and abilities.
- Experience setting individual learning targets and monitoring progress.
- A flexible, creative and engaging teaching style, with the confidence to adapt lessons when pupils require a different approach.
- An understanding of the importance of communication, emotional wellbeing, independence and life skills within SEND education.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively alongside Teaching Assistants, therapists and other professionals.
- Patience, resilience and a nurturing approach, combined with high expectations for every learner.
- A commitment to inclusion and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their potential.
Experience supporting pupils with complex learning needs, communication difficulties or significant barriers to learning would be advantageous. We also welcome teachers with experience in different areas of SEND who are keen to develop their specialist practice.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This school offers the opportunity to be part of a collaborative educational community where personalised support, specialist expertise and meaningful progress are central to its approach.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Make a genuine difference to the educational experiences of children and young people with SEND.
- Develop your teaching practice within a specialist environment.
- Work alongside colleagues and professionals who contribute to pupils' wider development.
- Support learners to achieve meaningful outcomes, from academic progress to greater independence and preparation for adulthood.
